On May 6, 2026, the Chididi Health for All Foundation (CHAFO) engaged in a UNICEF Malawi-backed Training of Trainers (ToT) focused on Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) at Shumba Lodge located in Nsanje. This training equips health workers for the implementation of MMS, which substitutes Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) supplements for expectant mothers to enhance maternal and child health results.
Essential Elements of the Nsanje MMS ToT:
Objective: The training is designed to facilitate the implementation of MMS in Nsanje, a crucial effort to diminish maternal anemia and enhance birth results.
Context: This program coincides with national strategies to provide MMS (comprising 13–15 vital vitamins and minerals) and Balanced Energy Protein (BEP) for undernourished pregnant women, especially in light of climate-related effects.
Methodology: The training emphasizes transmitting knowledge to healthcare workers and community members to dispel myths, enhance nutritional advice, and guarantee efficient distribution.
Engagement: The program is a component of a broader, district-wide approach that includes collaborators like UNICEF and community groups such as CHAFO.
This training is a component of a comprehensive strategy across Malawi designed to enhance antenatal care and provide improved nutritional assistance for expectant mothers.
