Focus Areas:
Day 2 shifted the focus from internal alignment to external compliance and resource mobilization, directly supporting the Strategic Partnerships and Institutional Strengthening pillars of the SP. The morning began with a vital NGO Act Overview, detailing the specific legal and regulatory requirements for non-governmental organizations operating in Malawi. This training emphasized mandatory annual reporting to regulatory bodies, compliance with statutory obligations, and the legal liabilities associated with their roles. Understanding the NGO Act ensures the Board maintains the legal foundation necessary for CHAFO's continued operation and stability.
The second session covered Project Management Essentials tailored for Board oversight. This was not a training on running a project, but on monitoring and approving project execution. Key elements included understanding the Project Lifecycle, the purpose of a Logical Framework (LogFrame) for performance tracking, and the Board’s role in reviewing Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) reports against the SP’s goals. The final, high-value session was dedicated to a Complete Understanding of the Grant Proposal Writing Process. This segment demystified the resource mobilization pipeline, from identifying relevant donors (e.g., those mentioned in the Stakeholder Matrix) to reviewing concept notes and full proposals. Board members learned how to ensure all grant requests are explicitly aligned with the 2025-2030 Strategic Priorities and demonstrate financial viability, making them more effective in their eventual role of high-level proposal sign-off and donor engagement.
